A call out to a Siemens S7-400 hot-standby application on a breakdown Thursday afternoon phone call “we have a barge on the south coast, we have problems on the ballast and steerage control systems it’s got to at sea on Monday”
Our engineer travelled down that night – on board Friday morning – the barge was a very specialised unit with a floodable cargo bay capable of handling 1000 tonnes and capable of directed propulsion.
Multiple aspects of the vessel were controlled by several Siemens S7 PLCS networked – Problems with the S7 controlled azipods and S7-400F for ballast control – all sorted in 2 hours.
