Chilled & Pumped Qater Plant UPVC Extrusion – TIA S5-1500, WinCC
Control system implemented using Siemens TIA S5-1500, ASi sensor network, Siemens WinCC, variable speed drives, flow meters, humidity and temperature sensors, multiple pump and chiller control.
PVC extrusion is an energy intense industry and the process requires large amounts of chilled water to quench the profile to retain its shape on the exit from the die. The principle aspects of the system: flow control, valve and chiller sequence control, temperature, duty sharing of variable speed pumps and chillers, variable speed control pumps and ensuring the most efficient means of cooling – the choice is between cooling tower ( the cheapest option ) and chillers.
The ability of the atmosphere to absorb low grade heat is determined by instrumentation and using the characteristic of a psychrometric graph a “Go / No Go” for the cost effective use of cooling towers. The system then performs an automatic transfer between cooling modes.
